99 fletching
reflex and recurve all make your bow faster, but that's only in comparison to another bow weighing the same, with the same amount of working limb, and shaped the shape that isn't reflexed or recurved. But just making a recurve on a bow can add extra weight and offset the benefit you get from recurving it. But if you don't put enough wood in the recurve portion, then the recurve can get pulled out as you use it. Making a fast bow needs to maximize the positives while minimizing the negatives. One of the fastest bows I build was a simple pyramid bow made from a board of cherry and backed with a layer of flax fibers. It got close to 200 fps, but then exploded one day out of the blue.
THIS IS NOT LONBOW BRITISH MORRON
Great stuff. Thanks Kramer
Your experience is helping a multitude of archers and bowyers
All of my performance English Longbows have a bamboo backing. There is a guy in the UK who made all bamboo English Longbows, where he had the bamboo at 90 degrees for the belly. Very very fast bows and a fantastic cast. They are highly prized in the clout shooting world.
i mean it should be obvious those two are different types of pvc... given that one is hard and breaks rather then bends and one is flexible and bends rather then breaks... thats a pretty obvious difference i wouldve thought^^
Its just and this is a scientists opinion No myn that when u shop u shake and it starts ti wiggle
this is good. thanks
Kramer, I have taken my last few bucks with a #40 bow! I use 500 carbon arrow 3" feathers, Magnus 150grn. 2 blade with buzz cuts. These 2 blade heads have shocked me at the lethality, non tracking after the shot due to shocking internal damage causing humane, quick recovery. Last years buck was a 150 class, circled 40 for two seconds and no movement. "Effective" As you point out the weight is not as important as the arrow and broad head match. Always, thumbs up from the 641...
You might be able to make good target out of thermoplastic type material. The type of plastic that hardens and holds form when cooled, but then can be heated to be reshaped and reformed. The plastic would be soft on the steal broadhead, and after it gets torn up, you just reheat the target to reform it or recast it.
From one wierdo to another,,good vid 👍
you can quadrouple it by going normal, swapped vertically, swapped horizontally, and swapped both ways
Love this Thank You 🙏
So would jarrah work for the belly with bamboo backing
@5:03 hole in the fletching/cup... I have a lot of these and the best resolution I found is to use a small 25cent size of 2ply cheap paper napkin from the fast food restaurant. > On the exit side of the barrel: Simply center the napkin on the exit side of the barrel, then place over the cone into the napkin and push into the barrel.... the napkin should form a good seal around the cone... this is NOT like a shotgun wad where the packing is separate and behind the shot, this is wrapping around the cone as the dart is pushed into the barrel... now simply blow the dart down to the mouthpiece and it will stay i place forever and not fall or slide out... two to three layers is all that's needed to provide an excellent seal and is very slick for the dart to travel down the barrel, and it will readily release once it exits and not cause aiming issues... also, you can now point the barrel down, or in any direction and the dart will stay fully seated against the mouth piece!

When is the mountain bow coming out?
Good day for a good day! Awesome that you captured the change in rotation of the arrow with straight fletching. In general, bowstrings made with counterclockwise twists (looking down string from either end) will cause a bare shaft arrow to spin counterclockwise (aka right spin). Using right wing feathers with a right helical fletching on a string with counterclockwise twist will produce a consistent right spin from the start. Of course, your finger release can affect this. Great stuff - keep it coming!
sorry - misread my notes... clockwise twists produce clockwise (right) spin, so use right wing feathers with right helical fletching.
My first bow was a 15 dollar fiberglass bar and string 😂 from the local camping store
lol swampy cree/native american guy here. Damn, i wish i knew how to make one and also hunt with an bow and arrow. do you guy's bows and arrow come ready to use when buying or would i have to built it. and string it and all that complicated stuff. i mean one day i would like to learn our old ways of hunting with a bow and arrow and learning how to make one also the old traditional way.
How thin does the boy end up being to start tillweing on a tillering tree ?
love your work Kramer
I used bamboo flooring as a backing before. Worked perfect. I put it on with epoxy and it made a great bow.
I thought it was real
The army of Attila the hun made composite bows to make the bows shorter so his soldiers could fire arrows while riding horses.// Maybe clear pvc is not as porous as pvc pipe, maybe that was the issue with your glue bonding, but you did sand the clear pvc... weird. Great video.
I have one 35#@28" and I draw 30.5" best bow I've shot.
Have you ever tried making a bow out of Rattan? It's similar to Bamboo, but it is solid core rather than hollow. We use it for martial arts (Escrima etc.) There is a local supplier where I live who can provide Rattan with the skin on, or off. I prefer skin on. They have 7 foot long poles up to 2 inches in diameter. I don't know how to make a bow, but I'd be very keen to see you tinker with it.
Muchas gracias a ti, Kramer. Desde Granada, Spain.
Awesome!
When I am making traditional materials bows for children under 16 years, I always use bamboo on the outward face, nothing puts a kid off the sport faster than a period materials bow exploding. Bamboo makes sure that even the worst failure, that just won't happen.
I would like you to test if you curv the tips forward it would increase bows speed
OMG, Please America, for the love of God, go metric!!!
Wow dude, Your pronanciations very clean, i subscribed your channel now
0:58 That called "Urethane film"
Kramer I would love to see a video on how to make a sight that would clamp or somehow attach to a self bow without damaging it.
“If it shoots, it works”
You didn’t say the ring company sponsoring you today made rings that change colour coz yours has gone from black to white 😂
I'm going to get to visit your shop, in the fall, and I already know Shatterproof is very respectful and helpful. You will share all you know about archery. Looking forward to seeing y'all. From Sam in Tennessee. Number One Archery Shop in Colorado!!!
I don't know from where the bow Maker of U.S gets there bamboo from. But there is a type of bamboo which is very strong.Mostly found in South East Asia People of Thailand, and Vietnam used this bamboo to make Crossbow.
Watching with headphones, the last part about the nodeless backing you spoke only in my left ear. That was hella annoying fyi
mr ammons sir : have you read the book wrote about howard hill and how he built his out of bamboo it is very interesting due to differrent woods but only one type of bamboo from china ????????
Thanks! Great info.. ok.. I'm off to the shop to sand and tiller.. :)
Excellent video as allways, very in depth and very informative very well exsplaned, I learned a lot just with this one video,a big thank you...
Great content, love your videos man. Many thanks
This is my personal experience with Titebond hide glue. I used it to attach fletching to my fletching with additional wraps one on each end and in the middle of each feather. I was hunting a fall morning in Texas and there was a heavy fog. Enough so that water would drip from my arrow occasionally. I looked down once and the sinew wraps on my fletching were slowly unwinding. When it got wet, the hide glue let go. Anyway, that’s just my experience.
Awesome!
Have you ever used iron wooden in bow making? I only ever made a couple bows. And I ended up sticking with white oak. But I have this piece of iron wood I wanted to test. I should mention I was most doing crossbows limbs. Did I've long bow and one laminated recurce.
Lofi backing track while making a video on make a bow, a perfect choice, goes really well the subject matter, love your videos bud...
Great video
